– DVD video chapter – Sea of Galilee

– Location –

The Sea of Galilee is one of the most beautiful places in all of Israel.  For all practical purposes, Jesus lived in the Sea of Galilee region, particularly in Capernaum, during the three years of His ministry.

– Scripture –

bullet Matthew 4:18-22; Mark 1:16-20; Luke 5:1-11 - Jesus calls Simon and Andrew and James and John to be His disciples along the shores of the Sea of Galilee.
bullet Matthew 13:1-52; Mark 4:1-34; Luke 8:4-18 - Jesus tells the disciples many parables using the natural surroundings of the Sea of Galilee as illustrative material.  Some of these parables include the Parable of the Sower, Parable of the Weeds, Parable of the Mustard Seed and Yeast, Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl, and the Parable of the Net.
bullet Matthew 8:18-34; Mark 4:35-5:20; Luke 8:22-29 - Jesus travels to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (the northeast side) and performs many miracles there.  He stills the storm during the trip, heals the demonic man by sending the evil spirit into a herd of pigs.
bullet Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:31-44; Luke 9:10-17; John 6:1-15 - Jesus crosses the lake again to pray, but great crowds follow Him.  He performs the miracle of feeding the 5000 people.
bullet Matthew 14:22-36; Mark 6:45-56; John 6:16-21 - Jesus attempts to return to the other side of the lake, but strong winds hamper the effort.  In the midst of a storm and in the middle of the night, Jesus comes to the disciples walking on the water.  They arrive at the shore and Jesus heals many people who have been waiting for Him.
bullet Matthew 15:29-38; Mark 7:31-8:9 - Jesus feeds 4000 people in the Galilee region.
bullet Matthew 28:16-20; John 21:1-25 - After the resurrection, Jesus meets His disciples in Galilee.  The tremendously moving encounter between Jesus and Simon Peter takes place along the shore on the Sea of Galilee.

– Questions –

1.     Feeding of the 5000 is one of the most significant moments in Jesus’ ministry.  After this miracle the crowd” wanted to make Him a King.” (John 6:14,15).  He ”constrained the disciples to get in the boat and to go.” (Matt. 14:22’23) and Jesus went up to the mountain to pray.  Was this another time when Satan tempted Jesus to be a political King instead of a Spiritual Servant – King?
