The Western Wall is the most sacred shrine in Judaism.  It was originally part of the western wall of the Temple compound that Herod the Great built in the 1st century B.C.  Today, thousands of Jewish, and non-Jewish people gather at the wall to mourn, rejoice, pray and worship.
